I'm putting together a new anthology for Prime, to be released May 2011. The title is BEWERE THE NIGHT, and I'm looking for stories dealing with any were-creatures; werewolves are welcome, of course, and the stories should be in a general urban fantasy vein. I'll need the stories by the end of December 2010, and I'm looking for reprints as well as originals. Reprints pay 1c/word and originals 5c/word, and the length should be between 1,000 and 7,500 words. Also, please suggest reprints by other authors if you happen to think of any.
Thank you!

Do the werecreatures have to be of earthly origin?
Yes, hence the urban fantasy bit.
Where do you want submissions sent?
Contact email address on my website, linked on the sidebar.
Sure, selkies could work.
I'll work on something once finals are done and over with. Maybe end of may.
Am I allowed to fiddle with the "were" concept fairly liberally, or do I have to stick within pre-established critter norms (werewolves, werecats, and the like)?
You can be fairly liberal with the were thing -- I'm looking at pretty much any shape-shifter stories, although I prefer that they have a dark element to them.
Awesome. I'll get cracking on this right away.
Any preference for format? In the body of an e-mail, attached Word file, attached text file?
Attached is fine.
You say you prefer a dark element...but that doesn't rule out dark humor, right? Some of the ideas I'm coming up with have a humorous angle....
If it's good, sure. Generally, everything that is very good is acceptable. Humor, however, is generally a hard sell.
What's the rating you want for this? Are you looking for Anita Blake style with lots of sex or more Dresden Files with just action and adventure?
I'll look at anything, as long as it's good.
If our story is accepted, do we retain the rights to it? That is, can we take it elsewhere, other media like comics, etc?
are multiple submissions okay? if so, would there be any possibility that both would be published?
BR -- yes, multiple subs are ok, but I am not going to publish more than one story from anyone.
Anon -- we only buy one time publication rights (first or reprint). You'll be free to publish your original story elsewhere 12 month after initial publication (with special consideration for Year's Best anthologies.)
You might want to look at some of the stories at Shifti.org. It's the most "professional" story site in the animal transformation community.
I am curious, kind ma'am. Only fictions? or nonfictiones, too? Can my experiences of werefolk in memoir form be of interest? I have searched long for a place for this. It would be good for the world to no. If the world no what I no, then many would tremble.
So...nonfictiones?
Fiction only, I'm afraid.
